Colleges the world over have departments that cater to finance. While some may be more prominent than others, it is nevertheless a given fact that almost every general education college has a finance program. Finance college, on the other hand, is one which caters specifically to finance education. Yet, it is a truth that one finance school may be found for every five general education college out there. Why is it so scarce?

The reason might be that not many schools find it necessary to specialize only in one stream of education. For nearly all the time tertiary education has been in place, finance college used to refer to the department of economics and business management, which in its courses, offered specialization in finance.

However, with the recent boom in finance and the globalization of economic trends, people have been going more and more for quality, specialized education in finance. Thus, finance college has wormed its way into the relatively small world of specialized colleges.

Finance college as its name implies, teaches mainly about finance. Courses can vary from certificate and diploma level, to more thorough bachelor, master, and PhD degrees. These courses focus on finance as their core, and also include aspects of economics, business management, accounting, and law, to provide a well rounded education.

Finance college has been gaining in popularity lately, with more and more financial advisors and analysts opting for specialized finance schools to earn their degree. Some colleges, who had kept finance under the umbrella of a broader department, are seen to be branching out into fully fledged finance school.

Online education has also marked a relevant step in the setting up of finance college. Many schools provide online education in finance. Where some might only lead to a two-year certificate education, they are nevertheless associated with other schools and colleges to allow students to pursue their studies towards a degree.
